[Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7]
I could end this post right now. The Bible commands us to not be anxious about anything. Yet I see more and more people around me struggling with anxiety. I want to help them overcome their bondage of anxiety. So here are 4 things that cause anxiety. On Friday, I'll have an acronym to help you overcome anxiety. 1. Words Words have power. The world was created with words. God simply said "let there be light ", and it was. We can also speak things into existence. Things like fear and anxiety, for example. Watch what you're speaking into your life. 2. People Just like we have to watch what we're speaking into our own life, we have to watch what we're allowing others to speak into our life. The world is full of enough negativity. Don't let people feed into your anxiety by letting them speak negativity into your life. 3. Expectations When expectations are placed over us, we get anxious. We get anxious about whether or not we'll be able to complete what we're expected to complete. We get anxious about if we do complete it, will it be completed to the expectations of the person placing it over us. We can also get anxious about expectations we place over ourselves. Don't place unrealistic expectations over yourself. 4. Shame We had a past before we were saved. We made mistakes. Mistakes that we're ashamed of. And although God has forgotten about them, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone else has forgotten. We get anxious about our past. About the possibility of someone bringing it up. So there are 4 things that cause anxiety. Come back on Friday for 5 ways to overcome it.
